Alfred Pearson was second Bishop of Burnley from 1905〔''New Bishop Suffragan Of Burnley'' The Times Tuesday, Jan 03, 1905; pg. 9; Issue 37594; col A〕 to 1909. Born in Brixton on 30 April 1848 〔“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 and educated at Lincoln College, Oxford he was ordained in 1874. After a curacy at St Andrew’s, Leeds he heldincumbencies at St Ebbe’s, Oxford, All Saints' Church, Nottingham (1880-1888), St Margaret’s, Brighton and St Mark's, Sheffield (where he was also Rural Dean of the area〔(Fifty Years of Sheffield Church Life )〕) before his elevation to the Episcopate.
